What the STR Series is

The STR Series is a new line of handheld fiber laser welders for 2026. It has five models in two families, from 900W to 3000W. Every model is cooled directly by refrigerant in two loops, and every model is rated for a 100% duty cycle.

  • STR-LITE S (S30 at 900W, S40 at 1200W): the lighter, smaller welders, built for precise and portable work. Both run on single-phase 220V power.
  • STR-MASTER X (X50 at 1500W, X60 at 2000W, X80 at 3000W): the heavy industrial welders, with deeper penetration, for high-volume production. The X80 needs three-phase 380V power.

What makes the cooling different

Refrigerant flows through two separate loops and cools the laser directly. It is the same technology that refrigeration equipment uses. The result is a welder that can keep working at full rated power without stopping to cool down.

Steady output in heat and cold

An air-cooled welder loses much of its power once the ambient temperature rises above 15°C (59°F). The STR keeps its laser output flat everywhere in its operating range, between -30°C and +60°C (-22°F and 140°F).

For welders of 1,500 W to 3,000 W that run for long periods, refrigerant cooling holds the temperature steadier than air cooling does. That protects the laser source and the welding head, and it is what makes the 100% duty cycle possible.

Automatic power compensation

Laser output drops slowly as a laser ages. The STR watches its output power (Po). When Po falls below a preset threshold (Ps), the system raises the output to make up the difference. Fluctuation in laser power is held under 1%, so weld quality stays the same over the service life of the machine. Ascent calls this power compensation adaptive correction.

Protected against water spray and dust

The STR is rated IPX3, so it resists water spray from any direction. It is also rated IP5X, which means it is protected against dust on a working shop floor.

Operating temperature and duty cycle

  • Operating temperature: from -30°C (-22°F) up to +60°C (140°F)
  • Storage temperature: from -40°C (-40°F) up to +70°C (158°F)
  • The published environmental tests were run in -19.9°C (-3.8°F) cold and in 71°C (160°F) heat.

The 100% duty cycle means the STR can weld continuously. There is no timed on/off cycle and no scheduled stop to cool down. This holds at each model's rated power, anywhere in the operating range, with the built-in dual-loop refrigerant cooling doing the work. The 100% figure is a manufacturer specification. No independent third-party test protocol for the duty cycle has been published. Before you buy, confirm the model, the power setting, your ambient conditions and any validation your application requires.

What's included

Every STR model has:

  • The K Series welding torch, which is light, precise and comfortable to hold
  • All-in-one intelligent control
  • A built-in library of more than 20 welding process packages
  • A flexible armored cable integrated into the machine: 5 m as standard on the S30, S40, X50 and X60, and 10 m on the X80

The STR-LITE models also have an intelligent safety guard with built-in protections for daily use. Their controls are simple and quick to set up once operators have had qualified operator and laser-safety training.

Laser safety glasses or a laser helmet come with the machine, and we recommend wearing them. Wear welding gloves as well, or buy the special gloves and apron rated above 5000°F. Put laser partitions around the welder. They are available from Ascent Lasers Pro, or you can build your own. See laser safety.

The purchase price also covers:

  • Installation at your facility and training for your team
  • 2-year comprehensive parts-and-labor warranty
  • Software updates at no extra cost
  • Lifetime remote diagnostics and help, with AnyDesk remote desktop software pre-installed for fast support and retraining

For the 2000W and 3000W models, shipping is included too. Service technicians work out of Buffalo, Toronto and Kentucky.

Typical applications

  • Fabrication and production welding of aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, galvanized sheet, brass and copper, within the thicknesses in the capability table.
  • Precise, portable welding jobs: the STR-LITE S30 and S40.
  • Heavy industrial welding and high-volume production: the STR-MASTER X50, X60 and X80. Their process settings adapt to the material and the joint type.
  • Automated and multi-process work on the STR-MASTER X platform: robot welding integration (MASTER X-A), laser cleaning (MASTER X-C) and laser cutting. One laser source platform serves all three. The 1+N Smart Ecosystem allows the automation to be scaled up.
  • Shops with extreme temperatures, water spray or dust, within the -30°C to +60°C operating rating and the IPX3 and IP5X ratings.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask about this machine

What does the price of an STR welder cover? Are there added fees?
Ascent Lasers Pro prices are fully transparent. The quote covers everything required to run the welder, and nothing is added to it later: no hidden fees, no add-ons, no extra charges. For the 2000W and 3000W models, shipping is included too. Covered by the price: setup at your site with professional installation and thorough training for your team, a full 2-year warranty that is comprehensive for parts and labor, software updates that continue at no additional cost, and remote diagnostics and assistance for life. AnyDesk Remote Desktop Software is installed in advance for quick remote assistance and retraining. Technicians in Buffalo, Toronto and Kentucky keep help close.
How long is the STR warranty?
2 years. Ascent handheld laser welders carry a comprehensive warranty on parts and labor for that period.
STR-LITE S or STR-MASTER X: what separates the two series?
The STR-LITE S series is the lightweight line. Its two models, the S30 and S40, weld at 900W and 1200W and run from a single-phase 220V supply. The heavy industrial line is the STR-MASTER X series. Its X50, X60 and X80 weld at 1500W, 2000W and 3000W and penetrate deeper. The X80 runs on three-phase 380V power.
What sets the STR welders apart from other laser welders?
The first difference is the cooling. A dual-loop system cools the laser directly with refrigerant, which is the technology refrigeration uses. Laser output stays stable from -30°C (-22°F) to +60°C (140°F), even at those extremes. The second difference is Power Compensation Adaptive Correction Technology. If laser power drops, the system makes up for it. Power fluctuation stays under 1%, so weld quality is consistent for the whole service life of the machine.
Can an STR-MASTER X do more than weld?
Yes. The STR-MASTER X series is built for multi-scenario use. One laser source platform supports laser cleaning (MASTER X-C), integration with automated robot welding (MASTER X-A) and laser cutting.
What protective equipment does laser welding call for?
We recommend special safety glasses or a laser helmet for anyone running a laser welder, and we supply them with the machine. Wear welding gloves. Special gloves and an apron built to withstand temperatures above 5000°F can be purchased instead. Put laser partitions around the welder. They can be bought from us, or you can make your own.
Air cooling or refrigerant cooling: which is better for a laser welder?
For a high-power laser welder (1,500 W to 3,000 W) that operates continuously, refrigerant cooling is the better choice. Temperature stays more stable, the laser source and the welding head get the best protection, and a reliable 100% duty cycle keeps performance consistent.
